Overview

The Audi A1 is a luxury supermini car launched by Audi at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Sales of the initial three-door model started in Germany in August 2010, with the United Kingdom following in November 2010. The five-door Sportback variant was introduced in November 2011 and began sales in export markets early in 2012. Built on the Volkswagen Group PQ25 platform, it features a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout (with optional quattro all-wheel drive for manual models). It is aimed at young, affluent urban buyers.

History & notable variants

The A1 was previewed as the Audi metroproject concept in 2007 and further developed into the A1 Project Quattro in 2008. The production version of the three-door model went on sale late in 2010, followed by the five-door Sportback variant in 2011. Notable special editions include the Motto Vehicles series from Wörthersee Tour 2010 and the A1 Competition Line/Contrast Edition introduced in 2011.
