The Audi Q5 first generation (Typ 8R) is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced by Audi from July 2008 to 2017. It was the third member of the B8 family, following the A5 and fourth-generation A4, all based on the Volkswagen Group MLB platform. The model features front-engine, front-wheel drive or quattro four-wheel-drive layouts. Initially available in a 5-door SUV body style, it later introduced a Sportback variant starting from 2020 onwards.

History & notable variants

The Q5 was unveiled at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show and made its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show that same year. It went on sale as a 2009 model in the US, with early models including petrol engines like the 3.2 FSI and diesel options such as the 2.0 TDI quattro. The Q5 was also launched in India in June 2009 and Middle East markets in Q2 of 2009. A facelift for the model year 2012 introduced new engines, improved efficiency, and aesthetic changes.
