Overview
The Audi A3 is a small family car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by the German automaker Audi AG since September 1996. The first two generations of the Audi A3 were based on the Volkswagen Group A platform, while the third and fourth generations use the Volkswagen Group MQB platform.

Go wider and the offset has to rise with it, about 8 to 10 ET per extra 1J, or the wheel pokes past the arch. The fit-check settles the exact offset and any spacer.

Audi announced the first generation A3 ('Typ' 8L) in June 1995. It was launched for the European market in September 1996 and marked Audi's return to small cars after a 19-year absence following the demise of the Audi 50 in 1978. The first generation A3 received a Euro NCAP rating of 4 out of 5 stars, with minimal pedestrian protection.
