Overview

The Audi TT is a sports car manufactured by Audi from 1998 to 2023 across three generations. The first generation (Type 8N) was launched as a coupé in September 1998, followed by a roadster in August 1999. It is based on the Volkswagen Group A4 (PQ34) platform and features a transversely mounted front-engine powering front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive with 'quattro' all-wheel-drive available as an option. The styling differed little from the concept, except for slightly reprofiled bumpers and rear quarterlight windows behind the doors. Production of this generation ended in June 2006.

History & notable variants

The first-generation TT was involved in several high-speed accidents attributed to aerodynamic instability at very high speeds. Audi recalled both coupé and roadster variants in late 1999/early 2000 to improve handling predictability, adding ESP or ASR, a rear spoiler, and suspension modifications. In 2003, Audi revised the TT with minor styling and practicality improvements. The TT quattro Sport was released as a limited edition coupé in 2005, featuring increased power and reduced weight.
