Overview
The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since 2014, spun-off from the 2-door models of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series. It was first launched as a rear-wheel-drive 2-door coupé and convertible in November 2013, followed by front-wheel drive variants including the Active Tourer compact MPV (F45) and Gran Tourer (F46). In 2019, the F44 Gran Coupé fastback sedan was introduced. The second generation of the coupé (G42) debuted in July 2021 as a rear-wheel-drive model based on the CLAR platform.

History & notable variants
The first generation of the BMW 2 Series included various models such as the M235i and later M240i, featuring turbocharged inline-six engines. The high-performance variant is the BMW M2, introduced in 2016 with a N55 engine followed by an S55 in Competition and CS models. In 2021, the second generation of the coupé was launched on the CLAR platform, not available as a convertible or manual transmission model.
