The first generation was launched as rear-wheel drive coupé and convertible in 2014, followed by front-wheel drive Active Tourer compact MPV and Gran Tourer variants in subsequent years. In 2021, the second-generation G42 coupé was introduced, remaining rear-wheel drive but built on BMW's CLAR platform with a roughly 50-50 weight distribution.
