Overview

The seventh generation of the BMW 3 Series range consists of the BMW G20 (sedan version) and BMW G21 (wagon version, marketed as 'Touring') compact executive cars. The G20/G21 has been in production since mid-October 2018 with a facelift in July 2022. It is based on the Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform featuring increased use of high-strength steel and aluminum, offering improved body rigidity and weight reduction compared to its predecessor. The G20 sedan and G21 Touring are assembled at various BMW plants globally, including Munich in Germany, Shenyang in China, San Luis Potosí in Mexico, Chennai in India, Rayong in Thailand, Jakarta in Indonesia, Kulim in Malaysia, Araquari in Brazil, and Chu Lai in Vietnam. The 3 Series Gran Turismo was discontinued for this generation.

History & notable variants

The G20/G21 series was unveiled at the 2018 Paris Motor Show on October 2, 2018, and became available for sale in March 2019. Notable variants include the M340i (launched spring of 2019) and the plug-in hybrid model 330e also introduced in 2019. The long-wheelbase variant G28 was launched in China in April 2019, with production extending to Southeast Asian markets later.
