Overview

The seventh generation of BMW's executive car series includes the G30 sedan and G31 Touring models. Announced on October 12, 2016, production began in November 2016 with sales starting in February 2017. The model is built at various plants globally including Dingolfing (Germany), Graz (Austria), Shenyang (China), Chennai (India), Rayong (Thailand), Jakarta (Indonesia), Kulim (Malaysia), and Chu Lai (Vietnam). It uses BMW's Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform, featuring a mix of steel and aluminum construction. The G30/G31 series is known for its advanced technology features such as the updated iDrive system and optional laser headlights.

History & notable variants

The 5 Series underwent significant development under Karim Habib’s design leadership, with Daniel Mayerle handling interior design. A facelift was unveiled on May 27, 2020, introducing new exterior styling elements and enhanced technology features. The G30 series was succeeded by the G60 model in 2023.
