The 2018-2020 BMW i8 Facelift is a plug-in hybrid sports car developed by BMW. It was produced in Germany at the BMW Group Plant Leipzig from April 2014 to June 2020, with production ending in this period for both coupé and roadster variants. The model features a transverse mid-engine layout and all-wheel-drive system. This generation saw an increase in battery capacity to 11.6 kWh, enhancing the electric range under NEDC conditions.

History & notable variants

The BMW i8 was part of BMW's 'Project i' initiative, introduced as a new brand separate from BMW or Mini. The coupé version debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013 and went on sale in Germany in June 2014. A roadster variant was launched in May 2018. Notable changes for this generation included an increase in battery capacity to extend electric range, reaching up to 55 km (34 mi) for the coupé and 53 km (33 mi) for the roadster under NEDC conditions.
