Overview
The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. It was introduced in 2014 as part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series. The M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3 with upgrades including an upgraded engine, suspension, exhaust system, brakes, and weight reduction measures such as increased use of carbon fiber. Built on the F32 4 Series platform but featuring unique components, it offers two transmission choices: a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch (M-DCT) transmission.

History & notable variants
The first generation M4 was announced in September 2013 and went into production shortly after. It featured the S55B30 engine with power ratings of 317 kW (431 PS; 425 hp) and torque of 550 N⋅m (406 lbf⋅ft). Notable variants include the Competition Package, M4 GTS, DTM Champion Edition, CS, Cabrio Edition 30 Jahre, and Edition M Heritage. These editions offered performance enhancements such as increased power output, lighter weight, and aerodynamic improvements.
