Overview
The BMW M5 is a high-performance version of the BMW 5 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. It has been produced since 1984 with periodic interruptions and continuously in saloon body style, occasionally as an estate in some markets. The E39 generation (III) was introduced in 1998 at the Geneva Motor Show, marking a shift to V8 engines for increased power output compared to its predecessor's straight-six configuration.
