Overview
The BMW X1 (F48) is the second generation of the subcompact luxury crossover SUV. It was unveiled in September 2015 and later at the Tokyo Motor Show. Unlike its predecessor which used rear-wheel drive as standard, all models are now front-wheel drive based (sDrive) with an optional xDrive all-wheel drive system. Built on the modular UKL2 platform shared between BMW and MINI models, it offers increased interior space despite being shorter in wheelbase compared to the previous model.

History & notable variants
The F48 X1 was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015 and later at the Tokyo Motor Show. In May 2019, a facelifted version (LCI) was revealed with updated exterior styling including new LED headlights, bumpers, wheels, and a larger kidney grille. A long-wheelbase variant for China (F49 model code) was introduced in 2016 featuring an extended wheelbase and hybrid models.
