Aftermarket wheel sizes — read per position:
| Position | Width | Offset |
|---|---|---|
| Front | 8.5J–10J | ET9–ET45 |
| Rear (staggered) | 10J–11.5J | ET27–ET50 |
As a rule, each extra 1J of width wants roughly +8–10 ET to keep the wheel tucked. The exact offset and any spacer are confirmed by the fit-check.
UK popularity & demand
Based on DfT VEH0124 vehicle-parc data (2025), there are approximately 105,319 BMW X5 on UK roads, placing it in the top 4% of car models by volume across our fitment database. That makes its wheel fitment a high-demand size to keep in stock — one reason we track its exact spec here.

History & notable variants
Development began in 1994 after BMW acquired Land Rover, influencing its design. The X5 was designed as a sporting road car with less off-road capability than Land Rover models. Notable for being referred to as an SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) rather than SUV, it featured a unique all-wheel drive system routing 62% of torque to the rear wheels. A facelift in 2003 introduced new styling and xDrive technology.
Reliability & owner notes
- Pros: Innovative SUV design, advanced technology integration, strong performance variants
- Cons: Limited off-road capability compared to Land Rover models, high production costs
