Overview

The G05 BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by German automaker BMW. It is the fourth and current generation of the BMW X5, launched in August 2018 as the successor to the F15 X5. Sales began in November 2018. The X5 M and X5 M Competition (F95) performance models were introduced on October 1, 2019. It is built on BMW's Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform also used by the G11 7 Series and G30 5 Series. Production occurs in multiple locations including Spartanburg County, South Carolina; Dadong, Shenyang, China; Rayong, Thailand; Jakarta, Indonesia; Chennai, India; Kulim, Malaysia; Chu Lai, Vietnam; Toluca, Mexico; Cairo, Egypt.

History & notable variants

Development of the G05 X5 was announced on June 6, 2018. It features a five-link rear suspension and is available with four-wheel steering or adjustable air suspension that can be raised or lowered by 40 mm (2 in). Compared to its predecessor, it is longer, wider, and slightly shorter. In August 2019, BMW introduced the X5 Protection VR6 armoured variant. A facelift was launched for the 2024 model year with revised front grille and bumper designs, new headlights and taillights, and Highway Assistant driving assistance.
