Unveiled at the 2012 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, England, the Transit Custom was not initially available in the United States or Canada but is sold in Mexico. It entered the Chinese market in 2016 and received a mild styling update with new engine options in 2017. In 2019, Ford introduced a mild hybrid system for EcoBlue engines and a plug-in hybrid version of the Tourneo Custom.
