Overview
The Ford Transit Connect SKN (second generation) is a compact panel van manufactured by Ford of Europe. Introduced in September 2012, it was designed to replace the first-generation model and features an updated Kinetic Design language with optional rear liftgate alongside double doors preferred by commercial buyers and wheelchair users. The vehicle includes MyKey technology for personalized key programming. Production took place at Valencia, Spain, and was imported into North America as a passenger van to circumvent import tariffs on light trucks. In North America, it offered two wheelbases and seating configurations up to seven passengers.

History & notable variants
In 2014, the second-generation Transit Connect underwent its first redesign since 2002 with updates including a new front fascia and MyKey technology. A mid-life update in 2019 saw further design changes and the introduction of an 8-speed automatic transmission paired with either a 2.0L GDI or 1.5L EcoBlue diesel engine (the latter was later abandoned for North America). The model line ended production in North America after the 2023 model year.
Reliability & owner notes
- Pros: Compact design, efficient fuel consumption, MyKey technology for personalized key programming
- Cons: Limited engine options in North America after 2019 (diesel option abandoned)
- Common issues: Recalled in 2017 due to risk of engine fires caused by lack of coolant circulation
