Overview
The first generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLA is a series of luxury subcompact executive cars manufactured since 2013. It was introduced as a four-door sedan based on the platform of the W176 A-Class and W246 B-Class compact cars, marketed as a four-door coupé. In 2015, Mercedes-Benz expanded this range to include a station wagon configuration known as the Shooting Brake. The CLA is positioned above the A-Class in the Mercedes model hierarchy and is nearly on par with the C-Class, though it tends to be less practical than its base platform.

History & notable variants
The design of the first generation CLA was based on the Concept Style Coupe concept unveiled at various events including Auto China 2012. It was publicly unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in 2013 and went on sale in Europe in April 2013, followed by the United States in September of the same year. The CLA's largest markets are Western Europe and the US. Notable updates include a facelift introduced for the model range in 2017 with new restyled headlights and taillights featuring available bold LED lighting.
