Overview
The Mercedes-Benz GLE, formerly known as the M-Class (W163), is a mid-size luxury SUV produced by Mercedes-Benz since 1997. The first generation W163 was a body-on-frame SUV and was manufactured until December 2004. It was built in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at the Mercedes-Benz U.S. International plant from February 1997 onwards, with Magna Steyr also building it in Graz, Austria for the European market between 1999 and 2002.
History & notable variants
The W163 was launched on 19 February 1997 in North America as the ML 320. It featured electronic stability control and front- and side-impact airbags, earning high marks in crash tests. The M-Class received a facelift for the 2002 model year with styling updates and new engine options.
Mercedes GLA-Class wheel fitment
Everything below is what the fit-check uses for Mercedes GLA-Class wheel fitment: the factory bolt spec first, then the width and offset window that clears the arches and the brakes on the Mercedes GLA 45 AMG X156.
| Bolt pattern (PCD) | 5x112 |
| Centre bore | 66.6 mm |
| Bolt / thread | M14x1.5 (bolts) |
| Seat type | radius |
| Factory setup | square |
| TPMS | direct |
| Run-flat | Yes |
Aftermarket wheel sizes — read per position:
| Position | Width | Offset |
|---|---|---|
| Front | 7.5J–9J | ET30–ET45 |
As a rule, each extra 1J of width wants roughly +8 to 10 ET to keep the wheel tucked. The exact offset and any spacer are confirmed by the fit-check.
