History & notable variants

The GLE-Class was introduced as part of a rebranding effort by Mercedes-Benz to harmonize SUV naming conventions. The W166 M-Class underwent a facelift before transitioning into the GLE-Class nameplate. This transition aimed to clarify the brand's hierarchy and align with other models like the E-Class.
