Mercedes R Class wheel fitment — 251
Overview
The Mercedes-Benz R-Class is a mid-size luxury MPV introduced by Mercedes-Benz in 2005 for the 2006 model year, following the success of smaller A- and B-Class MPVs. It was manufactured in Vance, Alabama until 2015 when production shifted to Mishawaka, Indiana due to reduced volume needs. The R-Class shares its platform with the M-Class (W164) and GL-Class (X164), available in standard and long wheelbase versions. Initially marketed as a 'Sports Cruiser' and later as a 'Family Tourer', it was discontinued globally by 2013 except for China where production continued until 2017.

| Position | Width | Offset |
|---|---|---|
| Front | 8.5J–10J | ET27–ET43 |
| Rear (staggered) | 9.5J–11J | ET28–ET45 |
As a rule, each extra 1J of width wants roughly +8–10 ET to keep the wheel tucked. The exact offset and any spacer are confirmed by the fit-check.

History & notable variants
In May 2007, Mercedes-Benz expanded the R-Class model range with more engine options and rear-wheel-drive availability. A major update in 2010 included a facelift and introduction of new V8 engines. The AMG version, R 63 AMG 4MATIC, was introduced at the 2006 North American International Auto Show but had limited sales due to poor handling dynamics and was discontinued after one model year.
Reliability & owner notes
- Pros: Luxurious interior; Available in long wheelbase
- Cons: Poor handling dynamics with V8 engine; High fuel consumption
- Common issues: Limited sales and production due to poor market reception
