Overview
The Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class R171 is a compact executive roadster produced from 2004 to 2010, succeeding the first generation (R170) and preceding the third generation (R172). It was unveiled at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show. The R171 features increased use of high-strength steel for improved torsional strength and aerodynamic efficiency. Its roof mechanism is more compact, reducing the time to operate from 25 seconds to 22 seconds and increasing boot capacity by 63 liters (2.2 cu ft). It also introduced the Airscarf system that provides neck-level heating through headrests. The front-end design was inspired by Formula One car noses.
