Overview

The R171 SLK was unveiled at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show as the second generation of Mercedes-Benz's compact executive roadster series, succeeding the R170 model. It featured increased use of high-strength steel for enhanced torsional strength and aerodynamic efficiency. The roof mechanism was more compact and operated faster (in 22 seconds compared to 25), increasing boot capacity by 63 liters. Notable features included the introduction of the Airscarf system, which provided neck-level heating through headrests. Its front-end design drew inspiration from Formula One cars.
