Overview

The Volkswagen Scirocco III is a sport compact car manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen from 2008 until 2018, ending without a successor. It is a three-door hatchback with a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout based on the PQ35 platform of the Golf V. The third generation debuted at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show and went on sale in Europe in summer 2008, expanding to other markets early 2009.

History & notable variants

The Scirocco III won 'Car of the Year 2008' from Top Gear Magazine. It received a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP despite minor issues with airbag deployment. In 2011, Volkswagen introduced the R-line trim for all engine versions, featuring new front and back bumpers, side skirts on the exterior, and Alcantara seats inside. The Scirocco R model was based on the GT24 concept car, offering a powerful TSI straight-four engine with bi-xenon headlights and dual exhausts. In 2014, the Scirocco received a facelift at the Geneva Motor Show.
